The government controls the economy, which means the people do not choose what they farm. This also means that if a family doesn’t have enough food and the father works in the rice fields, the father cannot take any rice to feed his own family, even if there is extra rice harvested.

Some key imports include petroleum products, steel, electronics, machinery and equipment, and fertilized. They export crude oil, textiles, garments, rice, coffee, rubber, coal, aquaculture, and other products.
